I am currently an Assistant Professor of Theatre, Lighting and Scenic Designer at Susquehanna University. I teach Scenic Production, Scenic Design, Lighting Design, Introduction to Theatre, From Page to Stage, and the Production Lab. I supervise the student electricians and scenic charges and advise student designers. My current project includes building a digital course book as a website for my Scenic Production class that covers lighting fixtures, maintenance, safety, scenic painting, and more. The current iteration of this can be found at thea143.weebly.com.
During the summers of 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022, I was the Resident Lighting Designer at Millbrook Playhouse in Mill Hall, PA.
I was an Associate Professor of Lighting and Scenic Design at McLennan Community College from 2013 to 2017. I was also the technical director and lighting supervisor for the theatre department. I taught Stagecraft I & II as well as Introduction to Theatre. I designed scenery and lighting for the theatre department productions and the music department's opera. Additionally, I ran the scenic and light shops and supervised students in the building and implementation of the production designs.
Previously, I was the lighting designer at Harvest Productions, Inc in Kansas City, MO, designing lights for events, concerts, weddings, galas and similar events. I also acted as the Lead Lighting Technician on many productions and Production Manager for several smaller events.
From 2010 to 2012 I was an Assistant Professor of Theatre, Technical Director, and Resident Designer at Waldorf College (now Waldorf University) in Forest City, Iowa. I taught Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Stage Management, among others. While there, I rewrote the Design and Technology track of the Theatre Arts Major to include more upper division courses. In addition to teaching, I designed all aspects for the four shows in the season and directed one play each semester and also mentored and supervised the student designers.
During the summers of 2012 and 2011, I was the lighting designer at Shawnee Mission Theatre in the Park in Shawnee Mission, KS. I was the assistant lighting designer during the summer of 2010 and the lead designer for the final production that year.
I received my MFA in Scenography from the University of Kansas in May 2010 and my BA in Theatre Arts from Texas A&M University in May 2007. At KU, I was a graduate teaching assistant for Stage Makeup and Lighting Production. While teaching at KU, where graduate assistants develop the syllabi and teach the classes themselves, I found a passion for teaching. I enjoy helping others learn and find that I am continually learning as I teach.
